Far from those images in which it is presented as a conventional and innocuous motif, in Las Niñas del Maizal the female hair, much more than an ornament, is approached as the axis of a tension that unfolds in different directions. Flexible and resistant, it appears as an ambiguous element, of variable meanings, perhaps ominous: it is the place where multiple conflicts and contradictions around the singular and collective feminine experience are knotted, like the strands of a braid.

The manipulation of hair, which is both part of the body and outside of it, is central to the ambivalent experience of the feminized subject, whose agency is configured from a position of subalternity: it can be a way of becoming visible, but also of hiding; at times a source of power and strength, it is also susceptible to operating as an element of subjection and control. Touching it can be a caress, a gesture of tenderness and intimate bonding - here, especially between generations of women - but also an intrusive and violent act, even towards oneself. It is this multiplicity of contradictory meanings, always latent, that is suggested in the threads that make up Fiorella Pomarino's first solo show: there she gathers and confronts, through the estrangement of an apparently banal and everyday element, dead matter, tenderness and rage, innocence and its loss, mourning and revenge.
